Empowering Affirmations Through Music and Self-Discovery

Written on

Chapter 1: The Struggle with Affirmations

Affirmations starting with "I AM" often pose a challenge for me. This difficulty stems from my Christian background, which emphasizes that there is only one true "I AM." This belief makes it hard for me to vocalize such statements.

As I attempt to express "I AM yadda yadda yadda," I find myself stifled. My therapist often expresses frustration, suggesting that I refuse to say these affirmations rather than being unable to. I recognize this truth, which only adds to my discomfort. Our emotional responses frequently reflect each other, and it troubles me that I can’t affirm these statements without feeling immense guilt.

The therapist encourages me to declare, "I am powerful" and "I am confident," yet I struggle to do so. Is it that I genuinely can't? Or is it simply that I won’t? Perhaps it’s a combination of both.

I've come to realize that music serves as a transformative outlet for me. It has become a therapeutic practice that I cherish. Listening to empowering songs, such as Sia's "Unstoppable," on repeat through my headphones helps implant those positive affirmations deep into my mind. In fact, I'm currently listening to it as I write this!

The affirmations of confidence and power are woven into the lyrics, and I feel like I’m rewiring my brain simply by immersing myself in this music!

Do you find it difficult to engage with "I AM" affirmations? Is music a part of your self-care routine? I would love to hear your thoughts in the comments, so let’s enjoy this journey together!

Chapter 2: The Role of Music in Self-Affirmation

Music can significantly enhance the practice of affirmations. It allows us to internalize empowering messages in a way that feels organic and enjoyable.

The video "Seinfeld: The Yada Yada (Clip) | TBS" humorously captures our tendency to gloss over important affirmations in life, paralleling our struggle with self-acceptance.

The second video, "Anthony Lazaro - Yadda Yadda Ya," further emphasizes the importance of embracing our identities and affirmations through a catchy rhythm that encourages reflection and connection.

As we navigate our journeys, let’s remember the power of music in our self-care and affirmation practices!
