Exploring Quantity Over Quality in Writing: A Game-Changer
Written on
Chapter 1: A Moment of Realization
Recently, I had a rather enlightening experience that made me reflect on my own hypocrisy. Have you ever caught yourself preaching one thing while doing the opposite? That was me just last week.
I had boldly declared that I would focus on writing less to achieve more depth in my work. It sounded clever, right? Unfortunately, it turned out to be a misguided notion.
Here’s What Truly Happened
In four days, I managed to produce only one reasonable article. Just one. And it only took me about half an hour to complete. I hit publish and moved on.
In contrast, those so-called "deep" drafts I had planned? I would open them, stare blankly at the screen, type a couple of words, and promptly close them again, feeling like an imposter.
Each time I attempted to research and write, it became increasingly challenging. The words wouldn't come, and my quality suffered. I was becoming perhaps the least productive writer imaginable.
That’s when it hit me: I had fallen into the quality versus quantity dilemma.
The Reality Check
Here’s the unvarnished truth that few acknowledge: the more you write, the better you become. It’s not about overthinking or seeking perfection. In fact, mediocre writing can perform just as well as a polished piece.
You Enhance Your Skills Through Consistency
So, I’m back. Back to the daily grind. Back to publishing consistently. The reality is that I don’t improve by hoarding a single piece and refining it endlessly. I grow by sharing my thoughts, raw and unedited.
Will every article be a work of art? Absolutely not. And that’s perfectly fine.
The objective is to keep those creative muscles active, to consistently put in the work, and to remember the reasons I started writing in the first place.
Here’s to welcoming the chaos. To writing poorly, frequently, and gradually improving our craft.
