Chapter 1: The Power of Writing Prompts
Writing prompts serve as a fantastic tool to ignite creativity, especially during those times when inspiration seems to dwindle. They provide a way to divert attention from urgent writing tasks, making the process feel more fulfilling than merely playing games like Wordle. Moreover, engaging with writing prompts is simply enjoyable.
As part of this exercise, I am tasked with selecting between two options without elaborating on both. There’s an intriguing underlying measure that reveals a person's tendency toward indulgence, but I already have my insights.
For this prompt, courtesy of Karen Schwartz through Roz Warren, a writing coach, here are the questions along with my responses:
You've won $100,000. Are you saving it or spending it?
I practice personal tithing, so my first step would be to set aside $10,000. The remainder? Well, that’s open to interpretation.
Would you prefer camping in the Colorado mountains (with glamping if necessary) or staying at the Ritz Paris in France?
If the timing is right, I would opt for the glamping experience. After all, my body does require some comfort.
Do you lean toward an "All-You-Can-Eat Entrée" Buffet or an "All-You-Can-Eat Dessert" bar?
I enjoy sampling various delights; desserts would be my priority.
Would you choose to be a pampered poodle in a luxurious condo or a wild horse running free in an open field?
The poodle has the option to enjoy the outdoors as well, so I would side with the poodles.
If given the choice, would you prefer fine dining with your favorite author or volunteering at your local soup kitchen?
I’d lean towards the soup kitchen; it’s an area where I could contribute more.
If granted one wish by a genie, would you use it for yourself or for a loved one? What would the wish be?
I have a deserving loved one in mind, but I’d prefer to keep my wish a secret to avoid jinxing it.
Do you enjoy giving or receiving massages more?
I’m not well-versed in giving massages, so I excel on the receiving end.
Would you rather earn $20 million by inventing something or $1.1 million by winning a Nobel Peace Prize?
If I could earn $20 million, I would hope to use it wisely to benefit humanity.
Would you prefer a lifetime supply of gourmet ice cream or free rolls of toilet paper?
No contest—gourmet ice cream wins every time.
And a straightforward one: would you rather be healthy or wealthy? You can’t have both.
The answer is clear: healthy. There are simply some things that money cannot buy.
