Writing Is a Skill That Requires Regular Practice and Dedication

Chapter 1: The Importance of Consistent Writing
To grow your physical strength, you engage in resistance workouts at the gym. Similarly, to enhance your writing ability, you need to commit to writing frequently. There’s no shortcut to becoming a proficient writer; it requires action. Avoid merely discussing, contemplating, or planning to write—just wake up and start writing.
I’ve managed to publish more articles in 2023 than I did in the previous year. The reason? I made a firm commitment to write daily on Medium, and since then, I’ve only missed one day. Did I berate myself for that missed day? Absolutely not. What matters is that I’m progressing, and that’s what truly counts. Whether you’re just beginning your journey on Medium or have been writing for a while, there’s always room for improvement.
Be gentle with yourself throughout this journey. Missing a day or even a week doesn’t erase your writing talent, just as skipping a workout doesn’t negate your muscle gains. Discover a sustainable rhythm for your writing and refrain from comparing yourself to others. Just like gym-goers don’t all lift the same weights or complete the same number of repetitions, writers also have unique methods to achieve their best work. We all aspire to either earn a living from our writing or publish a bestseller someday.
So, maintain your writing practice as if you were training for the literary equivalent of a marathon. If you were preparing for such an event, you’d train consistently, right? You wouldn’t expect to perform well without proper preparation. Your skills wouldn’t be ready for the demands of the marathon.
The same principle applies to writing. You can’t anticipate results without investing the necessary time to hone your craft. It’s easy to lament not receiving enough views, likes, or financial rewards from your writing—these factors are beyond your control. The only aspect you can manage is the act of writing itself, whether it’s putting pen to paper or typing on a keyboard.
Currently, I acknowledge that my writing skills need improvement. There’s no shame in this admission; it’s simply a fact. I am confident that by continuing to write daily to the best of my abilities, I’ll see progress by next month. I aim to showcase my enhanced writing skills soon, just as one would want to flaunt their physique in warmer weather.
I hope to see you thriving in your writing journey!
