Cash In on Your Words: Strategies for Profitable Writing

Chapter 1: The Value of Audience Interests
My younger sibling has always been one of my biggest advocates. Like our father, he consistently seeks ways to help me leverage available opportunities.
Typically, I have a multitude of reasons to dismiss his suggestions — and sometimes I'm justified — but today felt different. He reached out to inquire about which articles had generated the most income for me on Medium.
I shared that my most lucrative pieces were centered around technology. He then posed the question, "Why not write more tech reviews?"
Although I have a deep appreciation for technology, I don’t see myself as a specialist in that field. Occasionally, I pen articles about tech items that I find valuable.
For instance, I wrote a piece detailing the best accessories for new MacBook owners, as I was on the lookout for accessories for my own device. Another successful article stemmed from my personal curiosity and extensive research on the subject.
It appears that there was a demand for the information I provided, as individuals searched for accessory recommendations and stumbled upon my article.
I'm not particularly enthusiastic about sharing every gadget I own; that's just not my style. Yet, my conversation with my brother illuminated the importance of writing about topics that have a ready audience if I aim to earn money swiftly.
I don't need to have a passion for the subject; as long as there's a market for it, it's a mutually beneficial situation.
Some authors are fortunate enough to write about their passions and attract thousands of readers, which is fantastic for them. However, not everyone experiences such luck.
Reflecting on this, it becomes clear. Nicholas Cole has frequently emphasized this principle:
"Write what people want to read."
While personal essays have their place, do they address a problem? Do they provide answers to questions readers might have? Can they assist in making informed choices?
What implications does this have for me?
I’m considering giving technology writing on Medium another try since readers seem to appreciate my tech-related content.
