<Exploring Our Light: A Path to Global Transformation>
Written on
When the weight of the world feels overwhelming, I often seek solace from spiritual writer and teacher, Don Miguel Ruiz. In his collaborative work, Toltec Prophecies with Mary Carroll Nelson, he reminds us that our reality is merely a dream we are collectively creating.
At times, this dream can resemble a nightmare. However, the silver lining is that we possess the ability to influence this dream. The Toltecs foresee a shared awakening in human consciousness and an acknowledgment of our inherent creative capacities.
Within this framework, how can I actively participate in co-creating a reality filled with love rather than hatred? How can we foster kindness toward humanity and the environment while nurturing stewardship and friendship over fear?
I am more motivated to pursue this vision when I don't feel like the situation is insurmountable or that my only option is to engage in politics or launch a grand movement. If I believe that change can only occur within the sluggish, low-vibrational state of our human experience, I find myself drained even before I begin.
However, if I start from the belief that I, along with all of us, am a being of light, everything shifts. Light is inherently low in density and high in vibration, moving at remarkable speeds.
I’m not merely speaking in metaphorical terms.
In his article Biophotons: The Human Body Emits, Communicates with, and is Made from Light, Sayer Ji, founder of GreenMedInfo.com, tackles this topic. Ji notes that our bodies emit biophotons as a result of our thoughts and intentions, which may aid in cellular communication and even DNA interaction.
Ji asserts: “Given the sheer insanity of our existential condition, and bodily incarnation as a whole, and considering that our earthly existence is partially formed from sunlight and requires the continual consumption of condensed sunlight in the form of food, it may not sound so farfetched that our body emits light.”
While I have known photons as units of light that can exist as both particles and waves, what exactly are biophotons? They are elementary particles of light that exist within both visible and ultraviolet spectrums, emitted from a biological source.
We are indeed such biological sources.
Our cells contain biophotons, which are undetectable to the naked eye, as their visibility is a thousand times lower than what we can perceive. Yet, they fall within the detectable range of the electromagnetic spectrum (380–780 nm) when using suitable instruments.
Researchers believe biophotons are produced when our cells metabolize energy, created as a by-product of biochemical reactions involving oxygen. If our cells emit light and we are composed of trillions of cooperating cells, it follows that we are beings of light. So, take a deep breath and radiate brilliance!
Ji references a study titled Evidence about the power of intention in the Portuguese scientific journal Investigacion Clinical:
> “Intention is defined as a directed thought to perform a determined action. Thoughts targeted to an end can affect inanimate objects and practically all living things from unicellular organisms to human beings. The emission of light particles (biophotons) seems to be the mechanism through which an intention produces its effects.” [Bolding mine.]
Could it be that light embodies the spiritual force enabling our intentions to manifest? This research aligns with what we metaphysicians hold to be true. The article further elaborates:
> “Direct intention manifests itself as an electric and magnetic energy producing an ordered flux of photons. Our intentions appear to function as highly coherent frequencies capable of altering the molecular structure of matter. To be effective, intention must be timed appropriately.
> “In fact, living beings are mutually synchronized to the earth and its constant changes of magnetic energy. Evidence suggests that thought energy can influence the environment. Hypnosis, stigmata phenomena, and the placebo effect can also be seen as forms of intention, as instructions to the brain during specific states of consciousness.
> “Instances of spontaneous healing or remote healing of severely ill patients demonstrate an immense intention to combat life-threatening diseases. The intention to heal, along with the beliefs of the afflicted regarding the effectiveness of healing, fosters recovery.”
The authors conclude by affirming the relevance of thought and consciousness studies for biology and medicine.
In Toltec Prophecies, Don Miguel Ruiz intertwines his insights about light with the significance of intention. According to Ms. Nelson’s foreword, “The solution to the survival of the human race rests with our intention. We can harness our intention to create the vibrant future we desire, both individually and collectively.”
This reminds me of a meditation initiative in Washington, D.C., where a group dedicated an hour each day to meditating on peace over a month-long period. During that time, the city's violent crime rate dropped by an astonishing 25 percent!
Imagine if everyone who has ever prayed or thought about peace joined this effort in a coordinated manner. The results could be even more remarkable. This illustrates the immense potential we possess as beings of light to channel our focused intentions.
When Gandhi encourages us to “be the change you wish to see,” it is our light that empowers us to do just that.
Ruiz and the Toltecs teach that light is synonymous with spirit, and spirit is light. According to Toltec Prophecies, we are currently experiencing the Sixth Sun, which commenced on January 11, 1992. At this juncture, the vibration of sunlight has become swifter and gentler, leading humanity to metabolize a new quality of energy.
The Toltecs perceive light as a living entity, and since we are all directly and indirectly connected to the sun, this light serves as the foundation of our intelligence. The essence of this light enhances our creativity, imagination, and intellect—qualities that our troubled world desperately requires.
The text continues, “Our body is light… Our mind is light. Our soul is light in various manifestations. Light perceives light across all dimensions. This is why we can perceive not only with our eyes but also with our minds, souls, and spirits.”
Thus, we are far more than our physical bodies, minds, and souls. The wisdom of the Toltecs teaches that our very essence is light, which conveys vital information for life. Ruiz elaborates, “The DNA in each of our cells is a ray from the sun condensed into matter by Mother Earth.”
One of my favorite lines from the book states, “Light is how stars communicate with one another, just as light enables one atom to interact with another.”
So when Joni Mitchell sings, “We are stardust, we are golden,” it resonates with truth. Our essence as light not only beautifully illustrates our connection to the cosmos but also serves as a means to access our co-creative abilities.
For me, deepening my understanding of this power—both biologically and metaphysically—fills me with hope and clarity for the future. It encourages me to envision a healthy, nurturing, and loving "dream" of existence and to keep my intentions aligned with the changes I wish to see.
There’s a memorable song from the film adaptation of The Wiz, where the wicked witch Evillene commands, “Don’t Nobody Bring Me No Bad News.” While she may not be a metaphysician, she certainly understands how to assert control over her reality!
The good news is, we can all do the same!
