Title: Navigating Mobile Medium: My Learning Journey and Limitations

Written on

Chapter 1: Introduction to My Learning Style

In the realm of learning, individuals vary greatly. This discussion centers on my personal approach: I am the methodical type. Admittedly, I find myself somewhat behind the curve with technology, possibly because I didn't embrace it early on or perhaps because my interest is limited. Regardless, my desire to learn persists. Currently, I am eager to write from my mobile device, especially since Medium has reintroduced this feature. This change would allow me to publish without relying on my son's laptop. Alternatively, a generous benefactor could always surprise me with a new laptop! Just a lighthearted thought to brighten the day.

Chapter 1.1: Limitations of the Mobile Medium App

As I navigate the Medium app on my mobile, I've encountered several frustrations. For instance, highlighting text is a significant hurdle. Unfortunately, the mobile version does not allow for new highlights; I can only work with text that has already been marked. Copying and pasting are my only options. While I appreciate using the highlights that already exist, I can't help but wonder why such a limitation exists. Maybe I should consider consulting a user manual, but that seems a tad daunting.

Chapter 1.2: Writing Captions for Images

While drafting this article on my laptop, I attempted to compose text on my mobile device (which will eventually be shared on Dead or Alive). Unfortunately, I found it impossible to add text beneath images, as the caption feature seems restricted. I’ve tried various approaches, including double spacing and rewriting captions, but to no avail.

Chapter 1.3: Publishing Options

Beyond self-publishing and my contributions to KCC—where I hold editorial privileges thanks to Harold Zeitung—I’ve discovered limited avenues for publishing in the various publications where I am registered as a writer. Is this a common experience? I hope I don't sound uninformed, but this is my first attempt at using the mobile writing feature, and I would appreciate any guidance.

Chapter 2: What Works Well

On a positive note, features like clapping, commenting, and accessing emojis function seamlessly. Speaking of emojis, they weren't part of my school experience—I was more accustomed to creating my own doodles during lessons. Nonetheless, I can manage the emoji game at a basic level.

Conclusion: Seeking Insight

That wraps up my reflections for today! I'm pleased to share my journey toward overcoming technological challenges. If anyone has insights to share about the intricacies of the mobile app, please enlighten me! I’m reluctant to ask my son; he seems to think I've lost my way in the tech world.
