Why I Stopped Drinking Coffee Before 9 AM: My Experience

Chapter 1: The Coffee Dilemma
For many years, I made a significant error in my coffee habits by indulging in my first cup the moment I woke up, typically around 6 AM. However, after consuming various studies and listening to insightful podcasts, I realized that having coffee first thing in the morning was a poor choice. The body doesn’t actually require a caffeine boost right after waking.
If you find yourself feeling groggy in the morning, engaging in some light exercise or taking a brisk 15-20 minute run can be incredibly revitalizing. I noticed that when I sipped my coffee at 6 AM, by 1 PM, I often felt utterly drained and unproductive.
This prompted me to make a change: I decided that my first cup of coffee would be no earlier than 9 AM. By then, I had already expended some of my morning energy, and I could enjoy my coffee just as I began to feel a dip in vitality. This shift allowed me to stave off fatigue until around 3 PM, making my workday feel more manageable as it neared its conclusion.
Additionally, I successfully reduced my daily coffee intake from 4-5 cups to a maximum of 3. My summer goal is to cut this down even further to just 2 cups—one around 9 AM and another after 1 PM. This strategy helps me maintain productivity and energy later into the evening, allowing me to dedicate time to my creative pursuits on Medium.
