# Reclaiming Your Life: Escaping the Video Game Trap

Engaging in video games can be an enjoyable pastime. However, excessive gaming can lead to negative consequences. Research indicates that Generation Z is currently the most isolated generation globally, with many in the U.S. labeling their loneliness as an epidemic. While social media significantly contributes to this isolation, video games also play a critical, yet often overlooked, role.
Video games are designed to be mentally stimulating, making it easy to lose track of time while immersed in them. I've seen friends dedicate over twelve hours in a single day to gaming—something I personally find hard to comprehend. Despite their attempts to introduce me to games like Valorant, Tekken, and Dragon Ball FighterZ, I never quite managed to get into them. My lack of skill compared to my friends is disheartening, making it difficult to find motivation to improve.
More importantly, I refrain from gaming because I believe it lacks long-term value in my life. While I can understand the short-term appeal of gaming as an escape from reality, it ultimately feels unfulfilling.
Chapter 2: The Dangers of Online Relationships
Online communities, particularly on platforms like Discord, provide a space for individuals to connect and play games with friends they've never met in person. This can create a false sense of fulfillment, leading many to believe that they don't need to engage in real-world relationships. This trend is one of the reasons contributing to the loneliness felt by many in Generation Z.
What's the purpose of spending countless hours in front of a screen when there is so much beauty to explore in the world around us? I often think of life as a game, and I advocate for a mindset shift that encourages people to recognize the power they possess in shaping their own lives.
