Navigating life with health challenges can be quite an adventure. Recently, I’ve been dealing with severe circulation issues that have caused my feet to swell significantly. After a doctor's visit and a lengthy 12-hour stay in the emergency room to rule out any blood clots or heart complications, I was relieved to find there were no serious concerns. I’m currently collaborating with my doctor and taking diuretics to help reduce the swelling.

Next, I will consult my family physician regarding my elevated blood pressure, which has been a concern since my diagnosis last October. Interestingly, my oncologist was not worried during my treatment.

In light of these experiences, I found it quite amusing to reflect on my intended topic for today: balancing life as an entrepreneur and freelancer.

Finding Balance in Everyday Life Mediate. Journal. Exercise. Maintain a healthy diet. It seems like everyone is promoting a balanced lifestyle. While it’s admirable to aim for healthy choices, the reality often diverges from the curated images we see on social media.

For instance, I ended up writing this article on a Sunday evening due to a lack of time and energy earlier in the week. Ideally, I would have completed it during the workweek, but with multiple doctor appointments and a lengthy emergency room visit, that wasn’t feasible.

However, it's crucial to recognize that a significant part of achieving work-life balance involves listening to your body. I realized I needed extra rest this week, and I honored that need.

The Commitment of Entrepreneurship Running your own business demands dedication. It’s not just a sprint; it’s a marathon. Success requires effort, strategic planning, and time.

I’ve been freelancing and navigating entrepreneurship since 2016, facing numerous ups and downs along the way. Here are my top five pieces of advice for thriving in this journey:

  1. Focus on your strengths.
  2. Seek assistance when needed.
  3. Exercise patience while remaining persistent.
  4. Don’t lose hope.
  5. Understand your "why."

It’s fulfilling to engage in work that aligns with your skills and passions. Seeking help can mean hiring professionals, such as virtual assistants or social media managers, or even utilizing services like grocery delivery.

Patience can be challenging when you’re invested in your business, but persistence pays off if you’re making informed decisions and balancing your efforts.

After taking a full-time job a couple of years back, I realized that I had momentarily lost faith in my business. However, when the job negatively impacted my health and triggered a relapse of Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, I recognized it wasn’t the right fit. Now, I have the freedom to fill my time with clients I genuinely enjoy.

Understanding your "why" provides motivation during tough days and helps when you question your path. Taking the time to connect with your core motivations is invaluable.

By keeping these principles in mind, even if you find yourself drafting your newsletter on a Sunday night, you can construct the balanced life and business you desire.
